Welcome to the Special Services Department. The Leonia Special Services Department serves the Leonia and Edgewater school communities, including students and their families. Our team of specialized educators and related service providers provide individualized education programs to students with special needs in order to highlight students' strengths and strengthen their areas of needs, academically, socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and behaviorally. Our goal is to challenge every child while providing the supports needed to learn and grow meaningfully from year to year.

The Child Study Team (CST) is a multidisciplinary group of professionals work together to evaluate, identify, and support students who may require special education or related services. The CST includes a school psychologist, a learning disabilities teacher-consultant, and a school social worker. Together, they collaborate with families, teachers, specialists, and administrators to assess students’ educational needs, develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) when appropriate, and provide ongoing case management. The CST’s goal is to ensure that students with disabilities receive the services and support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

For students who qualify, the types of services may include possibly Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Counseling, Social Skills, or other supports based on a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
